McHenry Sportsman’s Club Newsletter (August 1, 2000)

Dear Members and Families:

The annual Club Family Picnic:

It is summertime, and once again time for the annual McHenry Sportsman Club membership family picnic. Please mark your calendars. This year the picnic is on August 27, (the last Sunday of the month), on the club’s grounds.

Last year, our picnic was a great event. Perhaps this year will even be greater, so we will have even a greater time this year.

For those of you who have not been to the club lately, you will be surprised. Many physical improvements are underway, with a good portion of the work already completed. Additionally we have four automatic trap machines and they are running in tip-top shape. We are looking into a fifth machine which will be capable of both singles and doubles.

If you have not renewed your membership, this is a good time to do so.

The Eating:

There will be plenty of eating and trapshooting at the picnic, and it is cheap. Tickets are five dollars if you are coming alone, or ten dollars if you and your family come. This includes all the food and soft drinks you can possibly consume. The food we will be cooking for all of you this year includes Hamburgers, Brats, Vienna Hot Dogs and Chicken, all cooked right on our grounds.

Bringing a dish to pass would be appreciated, and it would serve as a platform to your (or your spouse’s) creative culinary talents.

The Shooting:

The shooting events that will be held this year at the picnic include the following:

Fifty targets from the sixteen yard line.

The Louis Pitzen Handicap. Fifty targets from your handicap yardage. Your yardage is the greater of your ATA handicap yardage, or one half of the total score you received while shooting the sixteen yard event.

Twenty-five pairs of doubles.

Practice shooting and time permitting, “Annie Oakley” events for those interested.

Instructional assistance will also be available for people that are new, or just want help becoming better shooters.

Cost for shooting is ten dollars per event, or twenty five dollars for all three events. This cost is used to purchase prizes for the winners and pay the cost of targets and trap help. Prizes this year are Belt Buckles and Bracelets. As you may remember, we awarded Belt Buckles and Bracelets last year and the response was overwhelming.

Practice shoots are three dollars per a twenty five shot round. Instructional assistance is offered at no charge. Cost of “Annie” shoots depend on the nature of the event.

The club will open around nine in the morning with the sixteen yard event starting as soon as we get enough people signed up. The “eating” (business) part of the picnic starts around noon.

The Raffle:

Remember all those shooting coupons you used to pay for your rounds ? You may have noticed each one had a unique number printed on it. We saved each ticket you presented to the club, and they will be used in a raffle during the picnic. There will be prizes that the winners can choose from. Each person attending the picnic will be given an extra ticket for the raffle.

Summer League:

This year the club is hosting a summer league. The league consists of a five hundred target event, which is shot in groups of fifty targets over a twelve week period. You shoot whenever you are at the club, and you do not have to shoot with the rest of your squad. Winners will receive cash prizes.

For those of you who have signed up, or agreed to sign up be advised that the league has begun. Some people have not started shooting yet. For those of you who have not, please start or tell Tim Kraus, so we can make arrangements as may be required. For those of you who have started, THANK YOU !

GOOD SHOOTING TO ALL

Sincerely,
Tom Carneal, Club Treasurer
